Gin has had a fascinating journey. Originally invented as a medicine in the 17th century by the Dutch, it became known as \u201cGenever\u201d and quickly gained popularity as a remedy for stomach problems and other ailments. The English discovered Genever during the Eighty Years\u2019 War and brought it to Britain, where it quickly became popular as \u201cgin<\/a>\u201d established.<\/p>\n

Gin production flourished in London in the 18th century, and the Gin Craze led to an explosive spread of the spirit. However, this also led to social problems and calls for regulation, which led to the passing of the Gin Act of 1751, which strictly regulated the production and sale of gin.<\/p>\n

During the 19th century, gin evolved into a refined drink enjoyed in society's salons and clubs. The introduction of London Dry Gin, known for its clean and dry taste, set new standards and took quality to a new level.<\/p>\n

In the 20th century, gin survived the Prohibition era in the United States and the World Wars, with its popularity reaching new heights in the 1950s and 1960s. The Martini era gave rise to elegant cocktails that put gin at the center.<\/p>\n
